The Weekly Newsletter for Heart of Houston Birth and Wellness Families
August 30th 2021
Over the Weekend
Happy Monday, friends! On Saturday afternoon we welcomed a sweet baby girl into the world here at the birth center. Baby Seanna Breeze arrived a day before her due date and had a lot to say. Felicidades a las familias Gracia y Garza!
We love each and every birth we attend and we feel so honored to be a part of your birth as a parent. Whether you give birth at the birth center or in the hospital, our goal is make sure you feel safe, supported and informed about your care. We want to support as many Houston families as we can and your feedback can help! If you've had care with us would you mind sharing your experiance on Google Reviews? We appreciate your support!
Our friend and pelvic floor specialist Karen Kowenski PT, DPT, WCS joined us for our pregnancy group on Sunday afternoon. We discussed the importance of maintaining a healthy pelvic floor but avoiding a pelvic floor of steel and what you can expect when you see a pelvic floor physical therapist. Karen shared her favorite resources for prenatal yoga on Youtube and Diastasis Recti friendly workouts. Of course we love Courtney Wyckoff of MommaStrong.com. Heart of Houston clients and Whole Heart Collective members get a free 30 day membership! Email me for more info.
When Furbabies Become Older Siblings
Something I've learned over this last year is that Heart of Houston families are predominantly dog people. Like 90% of y'all have a dog or two and sometimes more. Funny enough the advice we give for introducing your new baby to fur-siblings is fairly similar to the advice we give for introducing older kiddos to their new human siblings; plan ahead and be gentle.
The ASPCA recommends creating a plan prior to the arrival of your new baby. Focus on things like mastering simple commands that will help keep your pet in designated areas. If you plan on keeping them out of the nursery, start setting those boundaries now. Start changing up their routines now so it's not too disruptive when you don't have the energy to get up at 6am to take them for a walk or fill their food bowl. Family Paws offers a webinar on introducing your newborn and furbabies. Cooper and kids also looks to be a great resource for parents. Of course we also recommend talking to your veterinarian about specific recommendations for each individual pet. What are some of the ways you prepared for your new addition? Oh and we LOVE getting your pictures so keep them coming!
Car seat Safety
We've finally booked a certified car seat technician for a class in October! This course will cover all the Texas laws on car seats and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations from infants to older children. Our instructor Angela will touch on things to consider before committing to a specific brand or type of seat, installation and removal, safe accessories and aftermarket items. This class is open to the public, tickets are $35 a couple. Heart of Houston clients and Whole Heart Collective member tickets are $20. Please RSVP for this event. Class will be in person on October 10th from 10am to noon and masks are required to attend.
