October 4th - 10th is National Midwifery Week - so of course Heart of Houston Birth and Wellness Center is celebrating! This is a great opportunity to reach out to any midwives you know (or their families who are unsung heroes) and say thanks. Thank you for taking my call in the middle of the night or missing the holiday celebration with your family. Thank you for just being present in all your raw beautiful humanness, with no preconceived notion or expectation, while your soul was bare.
If you haven't noticed yet, I am passionate about midwifery care and believe everyone benefits when the care we provide is included in all options. Of course, it isn't just myself that believes in the power of midwifery care, the evidence in support of midwifery care continues to grow. The March of Dimes, The WHO, The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, among others, all advocate for supporting and expanding midwifery care.
A couple weeks ago Jessica and I had the opportunity to sit down and record an episode of The Whole Mother Show with host and midwife, Pat Jones. We had the opportunity to share a little bit about our background as well as our vision for Heart of Houston. If you haven't listened to it already, or really want to hear it again, you can do so HERE.
Next week, October 13th, you can learn more about midwifery on the Chick Chat podcast. In the interview, Baby Chick founder, Nina Basset and I talk about all things midwifery. Tune in to learn more about the history of midwifery, types of midwives, what midwifery care looks like across settings, and why integration of care is SO important! A direct link to the podcast will be available here when it airs next week.
If you want to learn more about Heart of Houston Birth and Wellness Center services are hosting small tours of the center for supporters and birth professionals. Our first set of tours is filled, but we will be posting more soon. If you are interested in learning more about our services or working with us send us a message at info@heartofhoustonbirth.com.
