Sunny Skies Ahead
Happy Tuesday friends! I hope you all are enjoying this incredible weather after a week of gray skies and slick streets. We had some great events this past month and we're looking forward to more fun events in February.
Our dear nurse Rachel has taken charge of much of our social media and she's absolutely killing it! Follow us on Instagram or Facebook and let us know what you think.
We're not cool enough for any TikTok content just yet but you can follow us here and here. We're really trying up our social media game and we want to know what type of content you want to see. Obviously Ophelia, but other than that cute little redhead what do you want see/learn/hear from us?
Awkward!
Tomorrow we have another great Comfort Measures class. You already know this is my favorite class to teach. I love watching folks try new things! We set up six relaxation stations around the lobby and community room and folks rotate stations to find what works for them. The truth is there is a lot of laughter, a few inappropriate jokes (surprisingly, not all from me) and always, a few tears are shed. This class is often taken by folks in their final trimester so the anticipation of their big day has been building up for months, sometimes years. As a society we are sometimes so eager to move on to the next thing we forget to stop and just relish the current moment. This is a chance to slow down and physically connect with your partner as you prepare to take on this monumental task together. What you enjoy in class you might HATE in labor but this class will give your support person/people a toolbox full of ideas to support you at every stage of labor. As an added bonus we'll have some of our favorite doulas around to help at the various stations. Hope you'll join us!
Friendly reminder to bring back any books you've borrowed from our lending library. We also accept donations!
Thanks, friends!
Early Spring Cleaning!
Don't forget! Next weekend is our Spring 2024 Baby Gear Drop/ Swap-Shop! You do not have to bring items to participate! OOPS!
Last month I posted that we had a Baby Music Class with our friends over at Prelude Music but it was supposed to be a Music for Pregnancy Class. Turns out it was still a great class and everyone had such a fun time.
This time I double, triple checked and it IS a Baby Music Class!
Join us on Friday Feb 9th from 12:15-1pm and fall in love with Prelude's founder Ana Treviño-Godfrey and the magic she shares through music.

Meet midwifery student CJ, again
It's been one year since we introduced you to our student midwife, CJ Thorp. In that year we have seen this very green and very eager newbie grow into a confident midwife assistant. CJ, we're glad to have you on our team!
CJ is a midwifery student at the Association of Texas Midwives Midwifery Training Program. She is very excited to be joining the Heart of Houston team.
She was raised in both San Diego, CA and a small orchard town in Oregon. She first discovered midwifery when writing a speech in high school about maternal mortality, both in the U.S. and abroad. Learning about how midwives make birth safer and more comfortable for women led her to learn everything she could about birth and pregnancy. She briefly studied at the University of New Mexico and witnessed her first birth while interning at Maternidad La Luz, a bilingual birth center in El Paso, TX.
CJ firmly believes midwifery care is deserved by all mothers and hopes to later serve in one of Texas' many rural, low-income counties without a midwife. She also plans to earn a degree in nutrition after midwifery school.
In her free time, she enjoys travel, sewing, and cooking. She also plays drums with an Afro-Brazilian samba reggae drum group in Houston. She is currently an assisting student with HOH and loves learning all she can about pregnancy and birth.
